3 Ways To Get A Deeper Sleep Each Night

You know you're getting old when you look forward to going to sleep. You know that feeling when you've had a long day, and the idea of sleeping just feels so good. Most of us look back on our childhood with envy; did we really have enough time to go to sleep at 9pm every day?! Now, you're lucky to get 8 hours of high-quality sleep every night. Usually, you fall into a light sleep where you keep waking up. In the end, you get out of bed feeling more tired than when you lay down.

How do you get a deep night's sleep? What secrets and magic must you call upon to wake up feeling refreshed?! You can try a few things, all of which are natural and help you sleep better every night.

Get a sunrise alarm clock

This sounds like a strange idea, but it's been proven to work. Essentially, these alarm clocks emit light that mimics a sunrise. As such, your body starts to recognize that it's time to wake up, and you slowly awaken feeling more refreshed. For this to work, you could really do with curtains or something that makes your room dark at night. Then, you're naturally woken up by the light from your alarm clock as it gets brighter.

Basically, you reflect the idea of sleeping outside. It goes back to our primal nature where we used the sunrise as a way of knowing when to get up. Often, you're tired when you wake because it's still dark in your room and your brain is like, hang on, this isn't the morning - I still need to rest!

Try a sleep supplement

To be clear, a supplement is not the same as a sleeping pill. Sleeping pills fall under the medication bracket and are for people with specific problems. If you're highly stressed or suffer from insomnia, you may need medication to aid your rest.

Instead, a supplement is used to help you in a more natural way. You'll see sites like selling different products aimed at inducing a deeper sleep. Usually, these supplements contain magnesium and zinc. Both of these minerals are essential for sleeping deeply and feeling refreshed in the morning. If you lack either of them, it could be why your sleep is so bad. Try a supplement and see if it makes a difference.

Make your room dark and avoid screens

This last tip blends in with the first one in that you want to mimic the natural environment. If you have your light on in the evening, your brain thinks it's still day time. As a result, it doesn't produce a sleep hormone that encourages you to get drowsy. This is also why staring at screens can keep you up at night; you're suppressing melatonin!

Turn the lights off at night - maybe have a dim light on - and stop looking at screens for at least an hour before bed. Thus, you'll produce more melatonin, making you drift off into a deep sleep.

Try these three tactics if you're sick and tired of not sleeping well every night. They should help you fall asleep quicker and wake up feeling like you've actually rested!
