In Fountain Of Youth Keeping Young Mind And Body

Sip From The Fountain Of Youth: Ways To Keep Your Body and Mind Young

Life’s been pretty good to you. You’re happy with yourself. You like the person you’ve become. You’re happy with your home and family and you’re grateful to each and every person in your life whose presence brings you joy. Still, you can’t help noticing that you’re feeling older with each passing day. Even if you’re not looking older, you’ve begun to feel it day by day. The way concentration and memory don’t come to you as readily as you once did. The way old skills and talents have begun to elude you. The way flights of stairs or crouching to pick something up carry a little more strain for your body than they used to.

Woman
You’re by no means ancient… but for the first time you’re starting to feel older. But fear not! This is fairly common for those in their 30s and 40s. But the fountain of youth is within you. You just need to rediscover it. Here are some ways in which you can keep your body and your mind feeling younger...

Learn to play a musical instrument

If music, music festivals and going to gigs have always been a big part of your life, maybe it’s time to reignite your love affair with music while also revivifying your mind. Learning to play a musical instrument helps to keep your brain young by opening new neural pathways, and stimulating the memory and learning centers of the brain like the hippocampus, the cerebellum, and the prefrontal cortex. Plus, it’s a pretty awesome skill to be able to bust out at parties.

Revisit a passion from your younger years

Nothing makes you feel more like your teenage self than rediscovering one of your passions from your childhood and adolescence. The good news is that there are so many ways in which to do it and you’re literally never too old. Try looking up adult ballet classes, acting classes, amateur dramatics groups or local sports teams. There’s virtually always something going on close to you, and getting back in touch with those old passions and skills can help you to feel more like your younger self.

Take up strength training

Strength training isn’t just for those who want to get buff. The truth is that every woman should try strength training. Not only can it help you feel more empowered and confident, it can actually trick your cells into behaving as they did when they were younger. Strength training also helps to build bone density and strengthen the muscles around the joints so that they don’t feel as creaky or stiff.

Try and avoid falling into the same old routines

Finally, the problem with getting older is that we quickly settle into a routine, especially when we start having kids and need to give them a framework of stability. But routines can make days, months and even years fly by and dull our minds. When we were younger, we were always learning and there was wonderment in virtually everything. So look for opportunities to break the same old routines and help your mind to come alive with youthful energy.
